UDA Vice Chair Kipruto Arap Kirwa joins Azimio

UDA Vice Chair Kipruto Arap Kirwa has announced his resignation from the party after joining the Azimio Coalition.
Speaking in Sirisia Constituency, Bungoma County, Kirwa says he cannot continue working with the Deputy President who is also UDA’s flagbearer in the August 9th general election, after he appointed Mathira MP, Rigathi Gachagua to be his running mate.
Kirwa, who arrived in Sirisia Sunday afternoon accompanied by Azimio’s running Mate Martha Karua, said he doesn’t believe in Rigathi’s leadership. He said Raila Odinga and Martha Karua’s ticket is good for the country.

Two weeks ago Ruto appointed Gachagua to be his running-mate as Raila chose Karua. The two decisions caused a stir in the political scene as Odinga’s choice was seen as a breakthrough for women leadership.
Although Karua has been in the political scene for decades and even tried her luck in the 2013 general elections and managed only 43, 000 votes, this time round her appointment to be Odinga’s running-mate had a special feel especially to the women who are the majority of the voters.
Some analysts describe the choice of Karua as the best but in the wrong election while others say, Raila is giving Ruto a run for his money after he went for Gachagua.
Initially it was thought that Ruto would go for Kindiki as his running-mate but settled for Gachagua after almost 12 hours of deliberations.
Some analysts say Ruto needs Gachagua because he is a ground mobilizer compared to Kindiki who is a laid back bot and may have not brought many votes to the table.
