Ekuru Aukot in court to challenge IEBC over ID requirement.
Thirdway Alliance Party leader Ekuru Aukot is expected to go to court on Monday 6th to challenge the requirement for submission of 2,000 signatures from at least 24 counties accompanied by copies of IDs.
Aukot was the latest Presidential candidate to have his papers rejected by IEBC and thus receive a blow to his intention to inherit Uhuru Kenyatta’s seat come August.
Ekuru Aukot, who took part in the drafting of the current constitution, admitted that he had submitted voter signatures without the accompanying IDS, intentionally to protest the legal requirement which he said was difficult to implement.
However, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati insisted that Aukot and other candidates needed to meet all legal requirements before being approved.
Aukot insists the final answer will be in court on his behalf with the other candidates who have complained who are Evangelist Reuben Kigame and Governor of Murang’a Mwangi of Iria.
